Lathe object shading issues

Hello All

I have been using the lathe modifier extensively and until last night it was working fine, now when I add the modifier to a line the shading is all wrong as you can see in the attached image. The left object is an older object and has correct shading but the one on the right has shading where it should not.

Does anyone know what could cause this? This is in Max 2017.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Maybe the polygons are inverted, apply a shell modifier to it.

Thanks. That did fix it but I found the actual issue thanks to your indirect pointer. I must have accidentally unchecked the "Flipped Normals" checkbox as I have it checked now and lathe is working correctly. I thought I already tried that but it is working now.

Another thing to keep in mind is to create the closed shape to be lathed in the counter clockwise direction to ensure that the normals point outwards. Or, use reverse on the spline to change direction if you don't.
