Well, that's sort of like saying, "I'd like to do brain surgery, how can I do that."  Modeling in 3d takes some learning curve. There are several ways to get started.

Autodesk provides a bunch of tutorials on getting started. You can open Max and go to 'Help/Tutorials/1-Minute Essentials' to get started. Do all of those.

Then, search Google and YouTube for "how to use 3ds Max." You'll see a lot of links for 'Beginners.'

Max is not simple to learn. It takes time and dedication. But, because Max has been around for almost 30 years, there are 10s of 1000s of articles on the Web about how to do about everything it can do. You have to do what the rest of us have and spend 100s of hours doing every tutorial you can get your hands on.

That's how you make a 3d model.

What Rob said. 😉

To get started with modeling I would suggest to google "3ds max modeling tutorial".
As has been said: it's impossible to answer how to approch a model without knowing what it is.
There is a number of established tools in 3D software that define geometry in different ways and are usually very helpful in specific scenarios and useless in others.
Some keywords to get started would be "box modeling", "symmetry modifier" and "turbosmooth". These should help to model anything organic, like characters or shapes that have both straight lines and curves.
If the model is as simple as a table or similar you may want to use the "chamfer" modifier on top of primitive objects like boxes or cylinders.
And if the model has radial symmetry (if it looks round from the top and symmetrical from the side, like a vase or a bottle) you'll want to use a spline do define half of that symmetrical silhouette and then apply the "lathe" modifier.

In general 3DS Max has a good help funcion. That's how I learned most things. Just get started and if you get stuck.. read up on it using the help or google some tutorials.
