How do you select every other edge?

Hi

This should be a nice easy one for someone to answer...

I've completely forgotten how you select every other edge. I've been experimenting with the Loop and Ring options under the Modelling ribbon, but I just can't seem to get it. I think it has something to do with Dot Gap, but I still can't get it to work. I've tried looking up on Google, but the results aren't giving me anything useful. o_O So yeah... I want to be able to select every other edge in a ring so I can delete them quickly. How do you go about doing this?

Thanks

DotGap = how many edges should be between the selected edges.

Select a starting edge, set the dot gap and click the dot loop / dot ring button:

Ah-ha. Perfect. Thank you. ^^ Looks like I was going about it right then. I think the reason it wasn't/isn't working is because of my particular geometry. The ring of edges make up tris that are merging into the centre, like the cap of a cylinder.

Then you can do it like this:

select the center-vertex, ctrl-click on edges to turn this into an edge-selection, connect once, dot-ring-select the outer edges, add the newly created edge-loop to the selection and remove.

depending on the edge-count this might be faster than selecting by hand.

Sorry, I'm a little confused with your explanation. This is what the geo/mesh looks like to begin with. I was trying to delete every other edge just to have the inner ring made of triangle-looking quads.

I selected the inner vertex, changed to Edge mode and then hit Connect under Edit Edges, and that made a new circle-edge in the centre.

After that, I'm a little lost. Selecting Dot Ring ends up selecting every other edge outwards, from the centre.

Alternatively you can loop the dot-selection before adding the inner edge-loop:
