How do i turn off the Shift+LMB loop selection shortcut?

I need some help here because I'm losing my mind. When in the UVW unwrap editor, i want to select some faces, but when i shift left mouse click them, 3ds max tries to be smart and selects all the faces along a loop, i dont want that, i just want to select that second face. bearing in mind I'm using Maya interaction mode and when I'm modelling regularly, it doesn't do it, but in the UV editor it seems to think i want to start selecting all the faces along a loop and i cant find out how to turn this very, VERY annoying setting off.

Please help.

I have this same problem except I'm using 2020 (old question here, I know). Trying to find a solution but haven't had luck yet.

this problem still persists to this day in 2024 and i havent seen any solutions, the only work around is to just select everything in the area, and use ctrl + left click to deselect everything you dont want selected, if a solution to this could be found it'd be much appreciated
