Hello,
I hope someone can assist. When I model up baskets, rattan or wicker items I model them using splines, but in order for me to create game ready models it needs to be less than 100000. Some small baskets end up 500000 polys (faces). Other items I have no issue with.
The Polycount sky rockets when I add an unwrap modifier or just convert it to edible poly.
Is there perhaps something I'm doing incorrectly? I have tried optimising the object but it really distorts everything and the count still isn't below 100000.
I have tried removing the loops but then it causes unwrapping issues.
Thanks for the reply.
Attached is one of my files.
Here is another one that I did differently.
- Removed loops but this causes unwrapping issues
- Only editable splines but when I need to UVunwrap the model the polycount sky rockets.
The files you posted are in a newer version than my Max 2021. Can you post in an older format or perhaps someone running 2022 would care to look at them.
Your model Sinan Basket has an extremely high level of excessive detail! The object is a simple basket. Some of the first things to consider is how much detail will be visible in the final rendered image or animation. Will the inside be seen? How close will the camera get to the object? Can texture maps and bump maps be used to simplify the geometry. The model includes thousands of donuts. May of their facets are inside the rings that surround the basket and hence would never be seen. The same is true for the ring having facets that are out of sight.
Consider defining the outer wall of the basket as a single spline lathed around the basket central axis such as below.
The donut bumps (if included) should only include those facets that are outside the lathed profile. If the inside will be seen at all only model in detail the portion that will be seen.
