Free 3d Models for Max

Hi Guys,
I am planning to step into the world of gaming (well game creation atleast). Though I have done Maya and doing Max, really donot want to spend time on building up models. Would someone please suggest a site I can go to download some free low poly models (organic and inorganic).

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

GP

Don't think you will find any free models at TurboSquid, there are over 10,000 free models for use at 3DXtras.

Oh, ok, sorry, didn't know that.
Did a quick search and it comes up with 4865 free models (entries, not all returned by that search are free, however).

Can't say enough good about Turbosquid.

For me the main appeal in terms of your question is that you can be reasonably sure that the models you find there that are free are actually INTENDED to be free by the creators...on less..reputable sites you can probably download models for free, but the creator didn't intend them to be distributed that way.

Also, while I think there might be a few that ride that thin line, there are not likely to be many that truly infringe on IP - - you won't find an X-wing, Mickey Mouse, etc.

There is a LOT of variation in quality, but there are quite a few solid models for free, and a lot of the low poly ones I will often use as starting points rather than just popping them into a render. A well designed low poly item can be quickly made 'all your own', giving you a cool model and experience with the modeling tools.

Also, you might want to look at (depending on what kind of scenes you do) E-interiors.

The disclaimer on the 3DXtras site seems to confirm their models are meant by the artists to be free.

Deer Forest, is that still around?
Never been there but have lived in Michigan for 40 years and saw ads when we visited before that.

That's good to know - that some sites make rights/ownership clear...I was more thinking of sites that have "World's Greatest Collection of Star Wars Models" and such.

Deer Forest still exists, but it struggles to stay afloat - it's hard to be that kind of park, make enough to stay in business and remain insured, and yet not be forced to charge so much that no one visits. It hasn't changed all that much....it's still a great place for the very tiny folk...not many places you can actually pat deer on the head and see about fifty or more of them at once. If you want to remember what things were like 40-50 years ago, that place is pretty intact, including a ferris wheel that is almost frighteningly antique.

Fun off-topic story - they're so tame that once a couple were running loose in our town - I live about a four minute drive from Deer Forest and my kids go to day care at the end of the DF road. I got up one morning, and saw that a fairly huge buck was in my front yard. I walked out, and it didn't move, so I walked up slowly and patted it on the snout. A car going down the road saw this and the other deer and slammed on the breaks, scaring the deer off.

There's nothing quite like patting a deer on the nose in your own front yard. After the event, I thought 'Man, I'm glad that turned out to be a Deer Forest deer, and not a very, very calm and patient carnivorous attack buck'

Hi guys
my system crashed and was out of circulation for some time now. Back to business. Thanks for all the posts and the nice story on the Deer Park. Hmmm .. lovely place to live-in I would say.

Just a quick one on 'making one's own low poly models'. Well I have done some modeling in Maya and Max so far, but I havent tried on the low poly ones yet. Thats why I was looking for some free ones. Would there be a good tutorial on the low poly modeling, then I would have the freedom to create my own character the way I want.
