Constraining Thickness

Hi all,

First time on the forum, tried accessing the IRC but wouldnt work for some reason..

I've modelled this watch in max and I was wondering if there was a way of manipulating the strap without effecting the thickness of it. I would like to unwrap the straps so I can have a shot of the watch flat on a surface...

I'm quiet new to 3d software so I'm not really sure if there's a way round this, but from what I've seen these things can do so much, it's just knowing how!

Any advice would be grand,

Cheers

Jim

Hi. Take a look at the this thread. Alex Richards provides nifty step-by-step for straightening mesh objects.

How to "straighten" imported object

Is this what you mean by "unwrap?" If you want to flatten like a paper model, then the process is a bit more involved, and you would need to use Unwrap modifier which is a UV texture mapping tool, but it can be used to convert the UV info into mesh info using Channel Info utility.
