Clone selection in place

I am a fairly new user of 3DS Max, I know how to create objects from scratch from primitives or face by face, but I am obviously not very skilled yet.

I want to create a clone of the selected faces, and leave it in place so I can create a second object based on the clone.

When I do a normal clone of this, I get the whole object, and not just the selection, So I want to clone just the ring of faces selected above, so the existing object and the new object will be in the same place.

I have spent over an hour trying to find how to do this online, but without success. I search for 3DS Max but most of the results refer to Maya!

Hi, just press Shift on your keyboard and move, rotate or scale and select between clone as object or clone as element.

Right - or click on "Detach" from the "Edit Geometry" Panel - then choose "Detach As Clone" and/or other options in that dialog.
