I have a project that I need to do, basically creating a series of pattern along a building. Basically the best way is use spacing tool. But the problem is how to randomize the object ?
My final option that I can think of is creating the shape of the pattern from an extruded line then cut or connect the edges then selecting the lines and making it renderable.
But is there a better way.. I mean a parametric way if that's the correct term to call it, in doing the random object in a line.
Random in can change in HxWxD.
i attached a sketch of what i was thinking.
Cheers.

Hello,
For your question , see my tips below.
Bascially, experiment with the Scatter Compound Object, in 3ds Max.
Create spline path
In its modifier options> Rendering parameter rollout
Enable In Render
Enable In Viewport
Increase thickness to higher value so it appears as a thick tube in viewport.
Right click spline and Convert To > Editable Poly
Create rectangular box as per your picture.
Select the Box then go to
Create > Compound > Scatter
Click "Pick Distribution Object" > Instance enabled.
Under "Distribution Object Parameter" disable "Perpendicular"
Set Duplicates value to 10 , as a test
Uncheck "Even" and try other options such as "Area"
Expand the Transforms rollout and under Local Translation, change the X , Y or Z values
After the scatter operation you can Convert All to Editable Poly again
Subobject mode > Element.
Select and delete the tube and keep original spline if desired.
Select any of the rectangle boxes and translate as desired, if positions need to be
tweaked.
See attached file. Scatter.jpg
Users will need to experiment with the values / parameters.

Hi Samab,
you are actually right i have thought about it before... extrude a line and paint object on the face, thats probably the best solution so far.
thank you for the tip.
Cheers.
