I'm modelling a wedding cake, in 3d max, (see attached images) and i have no ideas on how to put a lace like the one in the image on it, pls does anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Try by modeling the net separate and then morphing it into position to overlay it on the cake.

Thanks a lot the tutorial has been very helpful, i haven't finished it yet, but at least i have an idea on what to do

What you could do is find an image online through a simple google search then convert it into an illustrator vector file, drag and drop it into the scene and 3dsmax will convert that patterns into shapes, convert it to editable spline and mess around with the parameters until you get the look you need. After that, you can use modifiers like bend and ffd to shape it onto the cakes.

Aww dude alright no worries, at least you got the satisfaction of figuring it out! that's awesome, I am sure it's looking great, for future reference try to always use splines as your base, you can create almost anything out of them and they will stay procedural so you can always mess with all the settings for it every step of the way!!
