Beginner: Scaling in one direction one end

Hi, as I've been working on several models in 3DS Max, I noticed that objects by default scale in two directions upon after clicking and dragging the axis you choose to transform said objects. I've been trying to figure out a way where I can comfortably scale the object on an axis in one direction (See video below). I only know one way and that is to adjust pivot points on outer edge but, even this is tricky at times because usability is an issue when pivot points are overlapping the scaling tangents in the workspace. I am looking for the simpler, more professional solution. Thanks!

Please, don`t use the scale tool for something like that.

You could add an editPoly-modifer on top and move the vertices of the wall. This is especially useful in combination with Snaps to build walls without any gaps between them.

However: 3dsmax also features a dedicated parametric primitive object for building walls. You can find under Create->Geometry->AEC Extended->Wall

Yes, I see what you mean, however, moving vertices with the edit poly modifier would cause stretching polys. Am I unaware of a feature with edit poly modifier that doesn't stretch?

Thanks!

Is there a specific reason or requirement for having that many subdivisions for the wall? .Are you perhaps planning to distort the wall later?

Add an FFD2x2x2 modifier

In the  modifier panel expand the FFD modifier by clicking on the +

Select the control points option and then click the control points you want to move.
