An issue with Boolean operands

Greetings, i have been modeling chess figures in 3ds Max. Suddenly, when it got up to making bishop figure cup i used boolean to combine it with a flat rectangle and subtract the last. However, after some manipulations  both operands just disappeared. I am confused about that. Tried differen solutions but no one helped me. Maybe you have faced with such problem. And yeah, i know that using booleans isn't very good decision, still, i just don't know ahy other way to make a cut in a cup of bishop. Thank's. Hope you'll help me!

I think the problem is that you are using a "flat rectangle" (ie., a 2D shape) as an operand in trying to create 3d geometry.  Try the operation with  your 3d Bishop and a Box sized as a thin box to cut the 3d slice out of it that you want.  Hope this helps.

I was using cube as basic form for my future rectangle. In the screenshot, down below to my post, you can see than there are no operands from my shapes.

I did see the screenshot, but I wasn't sure of the what your object operands were before they disappeared, but since you are confirming that both were 3d objects, I can only say this does not happen with max 2017, 2019 or 2020 for me when I use a subtraction operation as I assume you are doing.   I assume you already tried to toggle the Display options from "result" to "Operands" with no change?

What version of max are you using and did you try Proboolean instead of boolean?

I am using 3ds max 2020 and i didn't toggle anything like that. Trust me, i have tried alot of things to find the way out but in 90% sure, that Bishop figure couldn't be returned. Probably, this is the main fault of Boolean itself (i am using Boolean, not Proboolean).

It doesn`t come back even if you remove the rectangular shape or deactivate the operand (by using the eye icon) ? This is rather strange.

I guess you used lathe-modifier for the bishop figure? It doesn`t always give the best mesh, make sure that the core is properly welded and the normal pointing in the right direction.

Yes, i cheked it twice and everyhing is fine with pointing. I suppose the main reason, which caused my problem, is that i have been using lathe modifier... Anyway, if it is ture, in future i'll make a backup for objects for which assign boolean operands. Thanks for that!
