Wrong UVW Map Box

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I run into the following problem with the 3ds Max 2017:

when I Import a .Step, if I have 3ds Max in mm the UVW Map Box is applied in inches, as a result, in order to have it appear in mm I have to set max in inches, import the .step and save the file.

At this point I open a new 3ds Max in mm and I merge the file previously saved in inches; this way when I apply the UVW Map Box it is correct.

Hello @Anonymous,

have you set the Display and System units to Millimeters? You can set this under Customize > Unit Setup.

I hope that is helpful.

my Max is set in mm in both Display units and System unit.

To better explain, please find attached a .max with a cube sized 100x100x100mm, I imported this cube from a .step file (see attached).

Opening the attached .max file, if you look in the parameters of the UVW map box, you will see that instead of 100 mm you find 3,937mm, despite the fact that the dimensions of the cube are actually 100mm.

Also, to have a broader picture of the issue I can tell you that the .step file was produced by program CoCreate.

Hello @Anonymous

thanks for the explanation. I can confirm the issue here on my side.

Maybe you can switch to version 2016, where the issue seems not to be there, or use the workaround as you described in the first post.

This is a Screencast which shows the behaviour in 2016 and 2017:

Additionally I have forwarded this issue to the development, in order to get that fixed in future releases or Software Updates.
