Where do these texture maps go...?

Hi

I'm just experimenting with different texture maps I've generated, and I want to add them into my Max scene to see what everything looks like. I'm only using the basic Scanline renderer at the moment though. I'm not planning on rendering anything - I just want to apply the texture maps to see what things look like in the Viewport. I know where the Diffuse goes, I know how to set up a Normal map, and I know how to add an opacity mask. What I'm not sure of though, is where a cavity, curvature, directions, height, and AO map go. Also, is a directions map basically a World Space Normal map...? Thanks.

What are you using to create these maps?  I'm not familiar with most of the maps you mention, like curvature or cavity.

A Height map is likely a Bump map.  AO is ambient occlusion, which could be used in conjunction with the Diffuse map.  How you do this depends on what your desired effect is, but you could use the AO map as the amount in a Mix map, then plug the Diffuse map in one image slot and then a darkened version in the other.

Okay, I'm testing some baked hair out for my character model. I'm baking Fibermesh hair to a low poly hair cap using xNormal. I know a Normal map is hooked into Normal Bump > Normal. There is something else I'm going to try in ZBrush that I may have forgotten, and so those other maps might not be needed. I'd still like to know where those kinds of maps would go for future reference though. 🙂
