Using cloth modifer to create a unique curtain

I have spent hours trying to replicate this curtain.

Basically a sheet hung from the ceiling, and it is tied up at certain points.

I have tried numerous techniques, all of which failed. This is the closest - but its still terrible.

I have exhausted all online video tutorials. I'm about to give up, but in one last ditched effort, i thought i would post here, incase someone was aware of a tuturial or technique i had overlooked?

I downloaded marvelous designer. Without knowing anything about the software... Took me about 1 hour to create the model. I don't think i'll ever use 3dmax's cloth modifier again.

I believe your cloth needs to be stiffer to produce these horizontal folds.

You could also try to use a much lower resolution for your cloth and then use meshsmooth to smooth it out afterwards...?

Haha. You make me sick 🤣🤣🤣. What is wrong with me 🤣🤣. That is the result I had in my head after 2 days of testing !!! Obviously the problem is me… not the cloth modifier. Thankyou for sharing your results

Are you able to share your scene so I can compare the setup to see where I went wrong?

I have figured out why i was having so many issues. I was using the 'cloth modifier' not the 'massFX modifier'. MCloth it much more responsive

Sorry, I did not save the .max file as it was too simple:

A plane with Subdivide modifier set to Delaunay mode; assigned plane as MassFX cloth, selected the top vertices into a group > pin; two animated cylinders as kinematic rigid bodies. Hit Play button...

IMHO both MassFX and Cloth really should be fine for such cases, especially if all you need is a static cloth result, not a full animation.

Apologies. I couldn’t delete my previous comments. Yes using the ‘massfx’ modifier instead of cloth was much more responsive. I was able to get a similar result
