Hi, i need advise of expert.

I have complicated models what contain several parts like screws, frame, metal part etc. but they  as one element. Is there any scripts or methods to select closed parts to detach them?

Hi,

One way you can do it is:

1- Add an Edit Poly modifier so you don't mess things up,

2- Go to Polygons subobject level, in the Selection Rollout turn On By Angle, you can try a value like 15,

3- Select one Polygon on the part you want to have as an element, this will select other polygons falling in the angle threshold,

Remember to turn on and off the wireframe shading mode while selecting,

to see if you didn't select and wrong polygons by mistake.

4- Now in the Edit Geometry rollout, click the small square near the Detach button and choose the option Detach To Element,

I attached here your max file with the work i did on it

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no one easy, one click solution for this,

But what I suggest, after finishing with the easy parts, Is to use this same technique,

With the same, or different angle value, and start selecting the outer body polygons,

When the whole body is selected, detach it to a separate object and hide it,

Then try with the inner parts.

Now i don't know exactly what are the parts that you need to detach, but i think you'll get

Some luck to certain point.

Hopefully you'll not be forced to do some cutting of polygons manually, because this is time consuming,

And tedious! 🙂

I thought there should be some script to select closed surface\polys as it can be checked for open edges. I will take your method as solution. Thank you.
