Soft selecting multiple meshes/objects

I'm a newbie to 3ds max and is introduced to a powerful feature called soft selection.

I can easily soft select a single mesh, however I have difficulties on soft selecting multiple meshes.

The use case is, for example, two meshes are very closely positioned, therefore when soft selecting one mesh, the trails/area of the soft selection should also cover parts of the second mesh. I've tried grouping them together but eventually soft selection only allows the selection of only a single object of that group.

Hi,

Soft selection works on a single object, not multiple,

So you might want to Attach those objects to form one single Editable Poly or Editable Mesh,

You can use the Attach button in the Edit Geometry rollout.

In addition to that, and if you like to have the Soft Selection to only affect the connected

Edges starting from the selected Sub-Object element like a vertex, for example, you can check

The option Edge Distance. This works in conjunction with the Falloff value.

In the image below I checked the Edge Distance option, and I set it to 4, that means only 4

Edges should be affected starting from the selected vertex if the Falloff value is large enough to include them,

And as you can see the other Sphere, that is part of the same object is not affected even though it's close enough

And in the range of the Falloff amount.

Thanks for the reply.

Seems like the only option is to attach objects together then.
