Smoothing a line

I want to smooth a line, not an spline. I transform the line into spile and then aply smooth but the line dissapers

Which is the right procedure to do it?

I assume you are talking about a loop from several edges converted to spline

You can use spline relax modifier. 

 You could use before normalize spline if the topology of knots is not enough dense.

Or you could select the loop and use relax in edit poly
