Problem with paint with selected objects

My problem is that I want to paint on a landscape two different kind of trees with the paint with selected objects tool.Although, I add the two trees into the list when I draw all I get is, copies of the landscape. The trees are in the list! So, I end up having a messed up environment with merged landscapes.

Any help is appreciated!

Hmmm....off the top of my head I think you may have the paint mode set to "Paint With Selected Object(s)" (See screen). So what happens is that it paints with the landscape since it's selected (I assume). Make sure the mode is set to "Paint With Object(s) in list.

Well, the problem is that I have 3ds max 2014 and I was watching tutorials for 3ds max 2013.Apparently, the function of the Paint with Selected Objects has changed because when I used paint with objects from list, it worked.

Yeah, I can see that mistake being easy to make. In any case glad to hear that things are moving along in the right direction now.

In 2015, any time I choose "Paint with object(s) in List", it never sticks.

Create a plane, a teapot and a sphere.

Add teapot and sphere to the paint objects dialog.

Select the plane.

in object paint, choose paint on... "selected"

Then try to pulldown the Paint With...  button and select Paint With Object(s) in list.

Click on the plane.

Result: A plane is painted on the plane.

Expected: a teapot or sphere.

If I have nothing selected when I choose "paint with objects in list", I get a dialog that says "Select objects to paint with", and then the paint icon switches back to paint with selected.

So it appears that paint with objects never sticks and it always goes back to paint with selected.

looks like this is stock 2015. I don't see any service packs or extensions.
