Making a mistake somewhere when saving unwrapped models

The past few models I've made, I've always had an issue of the unwrap just being completely undone when I open up the save next.

I save the uvw, the max file, the uvmap jpg and the photoshop file in the same folder.

What is a common mistake that I could be making?

I have a model right now I want to save, but the unwrap is just not staying!

When done with Unwrapping, collapse the Unwrap UV Editor to the mesh on the stack.  This bakes in the UV mapping you have done and when you close the scene and open it again,  you should see the mapping exactly as you had it when reapplying the Unwrap UVW modifier.  In theory, if you keep the Unwrap UV editor on the stack it should be storing everything as you left it.   But for some reason, it doesn't always work like that.  There was a recent thread discussing this, but I can't seem to find it now.

Hope this works for you and for what it's worth,  I always collapse the Unwrap UVW editor to the mesh on the stack, so I never have any doubt.

In case you are not familiar with how to collapse a modifier on the stack just Right click on it and select "Collapse To".   Also I found the recent thread discussing this issue:
