Is there a way that I can make a selected object display as a wireframe

So I am trying to model a simple character in 3ds Max 2018, I've had experience with a couple of older versions of Max but its been a few years and I can't remember if there is a way to have a specific object display in the viewport as a wireframe. I am using a reference image to shape the object and everytime I just change the viewport to wireframe the background image (which I have on a plane) disappears. So I'm just trying to turn the object I'm shaping into a wireframe in order to avoid this issue so that I can do what I need to to shape it. Also on a side note I haven't been able to find the fillet modifier, is that something that has been removed or has it just been moved?

Thanks in advance for any help and if anyone has any tips to help me improve or tutorial sites that they can share I'd truly appreciate it, I've got an insane deadline and have to make a game (it doesn't have to be a complete one, it can be just a couple of levels) over the next four months to meet the deadline I have to turn in a portfolio of my work for my college application, and I keep hitting snags like this.

I am not aware of such a feature in 3DS max, or whether it exists, but an alternative for you is that apply a material onto the object and turn on WIRE. Also, change OPACITY from 100 to 0, so that you won't see the triangle edges.

See attachment.

*** This may not be the proper solution but it's close to what you want.

Or turn on Display Selected with Edged Faces in viewport preferences and set the object visibility to zero (or near zero) in object properties.
