How to correctly import .max to 3ds max

I am the super noob at 3ds max. Just downloaded it. I downloaded a skateboard 3d model to import and the picture shown, shows it has color and everything. Whe I import it into 3ds max it shows up in all black. How do I get it to show up in it's finished graphical colored form like in the pictures they show when you are about to dowload a 3d model?

Its a vray library? you see it black because you dont have vray render engine installed in your pc.

Select the model and apply an standard  material  or arch& design material if you are in mentalray
