Hello,

I'm sharing a file, it has a step by step view of what you want to achieve.

The model is created with Surface modeling at the end, but all steps are in the same scene.

If you want to ask further questions, please do.

I hope this is an answer for you.

Best regards;

What an awesome approche well i never think of that but i never use so good splines as u well as i see i can do a warry complex shapes with the splines together like u did but one think that middle roof i see u did that and that was the big problem u made a part of start but i am still confused how to do all the roof ho to connect them as one roof 😕

Hello;

I will explain this in a long way under Understanding Spline / Surface
modeling in a close time in this post and you will be creating anything you
want with this technique.

Please give me some time about this and if any other member/employee
replies and suggest another technique, consider their workflows too,
because you have too many ways to create a geometry in 3ds max, and what i
will explain is just one of them.

Best regards;

tnx u so much it is paint to me i cant get to that roof some how i trying with your way still cant get all the roof connected if u ca get the design of the roof and to learn it how to done it. I can send u lean pic of the concept if u wish and show me the way of modeling it.

Hi,

I'm sorry for the late reply, but here are the basics of surface modeling.

Note: You can also build this kind of geometry in different ways, such as polygon modeling, patch modeling etc. , but since i mentioned surface modeling, i'll explain you the basic idea of this workflow.

Surface modeling consists of splines, which are connected between them like a wireframe of a Polygon model in the basic idea.

So first of all, you need some splines, in a shape you want I'll create a basic Smooth spline as you can see in my screenshot in Image1

You can create rest of them by drawing, or as in this post, simply clone them. If you clone them, make sure they are NOT instances. They should be copy / clone so we can attach them, this is necessary for surface building. You can still change the shapes after attaching them, so it won't be a problem to create the shape you want as long as you have enough vertices / segments to control the spline.

Important: if you create the splines manually instead of cloning, you should be sure that each of the splines first vertices are at the same side (See Image2 - First Vertex is always shown in a different color. Yellow ones are our first vertices. If you happen to have your first vertex at a different point, simply select the vertex where your first vertex should be, go to Modify > Geometry > Make first)

Cross section Modifier;

Simply select the attached splines which you have created, and apply CrossSection Modifier. You can select your interpolation type from the modifier menu, Linear, Smooth, Bezier and Bezier Corner. Let's stick with Linear for now. You should be seeing something like in the Image3. This looks like a Wireframe of a surface, but there are no faces / surfaces at this moment. Simply apply Surface Modifier on this object, and you'll have your surface (in the very first reply, you can see these steps in the scene, please inspect it too).

When you create your surface, if you want to edit more precisely, you need a simple trick. Just apply an Edit Spline Modifier under the Surface modifier of your object. Should be looking like Image4

Please note that there are 2 vertices in each interception point of your crosssections, you should be selecting both of them to move and change the geometry of object. If you only click once on the vertex and move, your surface will disappear.

If you want to work with this workflow, you should be careful and precise, it does not handle mistakes as Polygon modeling, but it will give you good results. If you are done with your model, just convert it to Editable Polygon and then you can also fine tune it.
