Fundamentals: quickly bridging together two halves ??

Hi, I'm pretty new to this modelling stuff so, this is more a fundamentals question.  Below is a before and after of my modelling of a car. I used a variety of methods to bridge together the gap here in between both halves. Is there a quicker, more efficient way of combining both mirrored halves? Obviously, it was a  bit challenging with this model since it had a lot of vertices and edges. It took some time to fill in the gap in the hood and the back of the car.

No images were attached to your post but from your description it sounds like the model you were creating did not uniformly line up along the edge you are trying to mirror, which created gaps, correct? If so, after mirroring and lining up the halves of the model as best you can so that the majority of vertices are lined up align the mirror axis, you can use "collapse" in the Editable Poly/Edit Poly rollout on pairs of vertices that are not meeting each other across the gap.  Just select the 2 vertices that you want to meet along the middle and select "Collapse".   Since collapse will collapse all selected verts into 1 you have to just select the 2 you want to meet.   Depending on your model you can also bridge a group of edges across a gap as well as long as you have open faces along the mirror axis.   You didn't mention which techniques you already used so I just mentioned the 2 most common approaches I use.
