Hi so i've been using max for a fair while now but during on of my prjects i've encountered a problem to do with extruding, normal for a cylinder i can extrude outwards on easy face but for some reason i cant on this one object
For this I would likely use the shell modifier. You'll probably get better results.
If you must use extrude, It appears in your image that you're using "Local Normal" but I'd just confirm it.
