I Exported a 3d file to Autocad inorder to make a section and elevation to save time .

As i have seen a tuturial about it, but the thing is that it freezes whenever i do so ,Maybe because the file is so heavy ,Any solotions ??

I have done the same steps like this tutorial on Youtube but it didn't work.

Hi. Are you sure that AutoCAD can make sections of imported mesh and not just AutoCAD solids? Do a test with a few objects to see if everything works as expected, and maybe find out why "it" (AutoCAD or Max?) freezes?

Hope it helps

I exported the whole 3D max file into Autocad and it laggad so i have deleted everything except for "4" furniture items and it worked and finally turned it into a sections. So it it would be better to save more time if the whole 3D max filed exported to Autocad program turned into sections. overall I think since the 3D max file is so heavy to be exported to Autocad and converted to sections.

Thank you

I assume you have tried the Section Shape in Max? Or Editable Poly "Create Shape from Selection" (where you have a suitable Edge Loop)?

Then I suggest you try the Section Shape - from looking at that video it does the same job but within Max. No need to go to the trouble of exporting to ACad and back again just to get a Section. Create Panel > Shapes > Section button.

No no, the big panel on the right is the Command Panel. It has various "tabs" - 1st is Create, 2nd is Modify etc. With the Create tab selected (also known as the Create Panel) the 2nd row of buttons becomes active. 1st is Primitives, 2nd is Splines (shapes).

Click Section, click+drag in the viewport to create the Section gizmo. Simply move and rotate it until you see the preview of what will become the section appearing on your model(s). Turn Angle Snaps on if rotating because you'll likely need it in 90 degree increments. By default it will intersect with all models, if you only want certain ones, position the gizmo at the approximate center of those models (or model) and change the size of the gizmo (on the Modify panel) so it doesn't intersect anything else, then turn on Section Boundary. Click Create Shape when you're ready - you will get a dialog to change the name of the new object. Just click OK, or change the name then OK).

If the furniture is normal Max geometry, and the Section preview intersects it then it should work. Might not work with XRefs or Proxies - I haven't tried those tbh.

I would imagine it's possible, in the same way as with with the built-in renderers. Unfourtunately I don't have vray so I can't be more specific. You might want to post (just on that subject) in the Rendering forum - many people there who do use vray.
