Drawing straight lines with freeform tools

Hello everyone,

I have recently watched a tutorial about retopology that I am trying to follow. I have a model that I have already made that has some questionable geometry in places that I would like to fix, as well as simplify the rest of it. I have understood the tutorial fairly well and know what I have to do except for one thing. Is there a way to draw a straight line in the freeform tools section? When I try to extend my polys over a 90 degree angle, they seem to be bent, in confusing positions etc because the edge isn't straight. Am I missing a point to point drawing tool or is there a command to keep a line straight? Such as holding shift with the brush tool in Photoshop.

I am using 3DS Max 2017.

Thank you

Hi,

To draw a straight line in Max use Shift.

Also, there are some interesting 2D drawing tools that i made a video to demonstrate where to

Find them and how to use them. You can check it here if you like:

Using shift doesn't let me draw a straight line, however it does sort of allow me to connect 2 points, but only if they are a line and not just a click so i guess this is fairly useful. Thanks

I used wrongly the word straight, what i was trying to say is that if you click

The Shift key and at the same time you use the Line tool and start clicking in the viewport

You'll be drawing strictly horizontal or vertical lines.

Sorry for the wrong use of word. In vector programs lines are always straight.
