Copying object with unwrapped UV map

Hi all,

I started to learn 3DS Max coming from Lightwave and I can't seem to do this one simple thing, which is copying one object that has already been unwrapped? I tried Clone, holding shift and I always seem to lose my UV map.

I have Unwrap UVW modifier on and Editable Poly. Whenever I select Editable Poly, it warns me that editing my object can affect the UV, but all I want to do is mirror my wall of the stairs to the other side.

On Lightwave, you can achieve this by simply pressing Mirror X, and UV map automatically carries over with the copied object.

I have attached screenshots what I am trying to show.

So basically, when I copy the wall of my stairs, whole UV map disappears. Is there something I am missing, or do something with the modifier? I am new to 3DS Max, my apologies.

Add another edit poly on top and do your clone operations there. If you do it in the base edit poly you would be cloning before the UVs are applied and messing up the unwarp geometry reference.

Hi,

When you clone you should not loose your UV's,

Even when you see the warning, there is no risk of that,

Actually you did not loose your UVs, the problem is, in the second photo,

Is that you're in the Element subobject level, i marked that in red:

So Expand your Editable Poly, click on Element so you are in the Object level, and you'll see your UVs again

Hi friend.

After unwrapping object convert it to editable poly or mesh, then try to copy the whole object or it's element. It will keep the uv undisturbed.
