Cannot assign image to plane

Hello everyone!

I have a problem with 3DS MAX 2018 - Student version. When I try to assign an image to a plane, it just doesn't show up. I will attach a print to see where is the problem.

I select the object, go to material editor, select standard material from scanline, select diffuse color and then I select bitmap. I choose the image which I want to display, I press 'show shaded material in the viewport', and then I assign the matterial to selection. I also put self-illumination color to 100.

The plane doesn't do nothing .

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you very much!

PS: Image doesn't show on any side of the plane, also I don't use 'real-world scale'

Have you activated the "generate mapping coords." at the bottom of the place creation?  By default is ON.

If it is ON, double check the textures are active in the viewport images resolution are ON also.

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately this doesn't work. I checked what you said.

Here is the proof:

By the way, If I select  'facemap' in the material editor, the image shows up, but when I change the image in Plane2 or Plane3, all planes will get updated with the image I assign to Plane1

Thank you again!

Try to uncheck to option Real-World Map Size

Right now I wanted to replay to say that I solved that by unchecking that. You were faster than me Smiley Very Happy

Working perfectly now!

Thank you very much for your time and understanding!

PS: One more question :

Why when I assign material to one plane it changes to all? I tried to freeze that plane but still change.

"...it changes to all?..." I didn't understand this part,

Can you please be more clear for what is exactly the problem.

Well I mean by that, if I have 3 planes created, and I have 3 standard materials with 3 different images, when I select only 1 plane, and I assign the image to that plane, all 3 planes get the same image.

This is very strange and cannot happen

I think i need to have a copy of the max file, only with the problematic objects and the images.

I have max 2017 if you like to send the file. because at this moment i cannot imagine why this is happening,

Since i understand from from you're saying that you have separate planes, one selected and you're applying material

To selection and all planes are affected!

Yes, you have understood right! Well, it's not some special file. I just create a new all, and then I create 3 planes.

Maybe it should be a problem with linking? Because I create another plane using shift and rotate. But I don't think so, I have tried a fresh install 3ds on another computer(it didn't have before any 3ds installed) and it works perfectly fine.

I have attatched the files in a .rar.

Thank you very much again!

Hi,

No worry, i went to sleep too! 🙂

I checked your file and it's normal, works perfectly

So i have no i idea why this might happens

If you think it's a corrupted installation,

You can try resetting your user settings and see what happens.

To do that:

Close Max and go to: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20xx - xxbit

And rename the folder called ENU to something else like ENU.OLD and reopen Max

Hello,

I tried to delete that but nothing changes. I will create everytime new plane without using shift key and move.

Also I noticed if I use 'copy' instead of 'instance' using shift key and move to create a new plane, it doesn't update both of them.

Anyway, thank you very much for your time and understanding! It helped me very much!
