QUAD ECHIVALENT OF PRIMITIVES Provide quad equivalents to all primitives! (link to separate idea) PRESET SUPPORT FOR PRIMITIVES Ability to save and load custom parameters for primitives by using a presets system like the newer modifiers in 3ds Max have (Chamfer, Data channel etc.), and save presets as default is an obvious addition to primitive system if you ask me. Here is an ex of how it works in C4D (link to video). INTERACTIVELY CONTROL SEGMENTS/SIDES/TWIST AND OTHER NON SUPORTED PARAMETERS DURING CREATION Here is an example on how it works in Modo (link to video). PIVOT AT CENTER OPTION ACCESSED BY HOTKEYS DURING INTERACTIVE CREATION AND AS A TOGGLE IN COMMAND PANEL Sometimes is useful to have the pivot at center either during interactive creation or later. Box primitive is the most in need for it but other basic and extended primitives could serve it as well. This should be easily switched using modifier keys during interactive creation and have it as an additional option Center to Pivot within Command Panel along Base to Pivot. Currently only Sphere which by default have pivot in center have an option Base to Pivot and can easily switch between them (but not by using modifier keys during creation). GIZMO AND HANDLES TO INTERACTIVELY MODIFY PARAMETERS AFTER CREATION It's good to have an interactive method for the initial creation of primitives but could be even more useful and consistent to have this ability post creation as well without dealing with the numeric input fields of the Command Panel. Having the option to have a discreet permanent gizmo or/and handles to control their parameters similar to Lightwave 3D (link to video) or in a more limited way (due to the lack of handles in the corners) to Modo (link to video) or C4D (link to video) visible on selection is one way in many other that would make 3ds Max less clicky and more interactive. This handles could/should work with increments and snapping so that one for ex. could snap the length or width of a primitive to another object's edge, vertex or polygon at creation or modification time without needing to move the entire object or to apply and Edit Poly and snap move the respective face. In relation with that, we need to be able to control the dimensions of an primitive independently on negative or positive (unlike now where a cube length for ex. can only be changed in both directions simultaneously) and for that we could have separate dragging handles for each direction like Modo or Lightwave have. Additionally, Lightwave also has handles in the corners so you can modify dimensions on two axis simultaneously. AUTOGRID FUNCTIONALITY EXPANDED TO SUPPORT ALIGNEMENT TO EDGES AND VERTICES NORMALS NOT ONLY POLYGONS Newly created primitives should be aligned with edges or vertices normals direction when the AutoGrid gizmo hovers over them. At the moment only polygons are supported. This is a limitation for the Select and Place tool as well so maybe an unify solution needs to be considered. ENHANCE CURRENT PRIMITIVES AND ADD SOME EXTRA ONES 3ds Max could use some Extra Parametric Primitives for Mechanical, Pipe Joints, Jewelry, Abstract modeling or Visualization purposes. There are other existing ones that could use some enhancements as well. Here is an exemplary but not exhaustive list of enhancements and extra objects with their possible parameters: Studio Backdrop, Bolt and Nut, Gear, Gear Worm, Thread, Pipe Joint, Diamond, Beam, SuperToroid, Step pyramid, HoneyComb, Star, SuperShapes (Mathematical) like in Maya, Twisted Torus etc. I've made a separate topic where I've gone in depth and illustrated this idea so pls. go and vote for that as well (link to topic).
