Expose XREF Parameters

Expose XREF Parameters

It would be good to be able to expose parameters from an XREF so I can adjust them in my scene file.  Similar to the way Substance designer allows you to expose certain material properties for simple editing in other packages.

for example, if I have a light in my XREF file and I choose to expose it's brightness then I can modify that parameter in my scene file that contains that XREF.

Whilst this seems like a nice idea. I've always been taught that it's best to keep things like lights & cameras in your parent scene file rather than xrefs so if someone else uses that xref, they don't gain a bonus light where they don't need one.

I'm not really talking about lights that was just an example, I'm talking about being able to adjust certain properties of an XREF asset from within the scene.

Another example might be a tree in Summer, Autumn & Winter.  You could "expose" all the different parameters of leaf density and colour into one slider that you could adjust in the scene file to vary the tree.  Then you could have several trees in the you scene all referenced from one file but able to vary them individually the scene file.

Actually I just worked out that you can kind of do this, if you create a slider in you XREF file controlling a parameter, then bring in the XREF object  and then in the XREF Objects dialog box you can merge the slider into the scene and it still manipulates the parameter of the XREF object, pretty cool.
