wrl import issue

I have imported a wrl file into 3DS Max 2018. It will not smooth. I think there isn't enough topology for the smooth. When the same wrl file is imported into C4D there is no banding or facets in the model. It comes in smooth. The images are rendered with Arnold. The renders also have little white specs on it. Don't know if those are small holes in the model or artifacts from the render.

I think I have found the issue. None of the polygons in the model are attached to each other. They are all detached. Is there a way to connect all the polys together in a model?

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

You can weld the verts together rather easily.  Go into sub-object mode and select all the verts, then press the option box next to "Weld".  Set the tolerance to 0 by right clicking on the spinners.  If you don't see a difference in 'Before and After' vert counts, hold down Alt and use the up arrow control to increase the tolerance a very tiny amount, then press Apply.  You should then have a single object with all the verts welded.  Then you can apply a smoothing group and you should be good to go.  Would you please try that for me?  Please let me know how it goes.
