I'm sorry you are having a problem. Max generally installs and works fine right out of the box. Don't throw in the towel just yet. Since you are just getting started you probably have not made too many viewport customizations so a simple ENU reset may solve the problem.
Go find yours and just rename it to 'ENU-Problems_Backup.' Make sure Max is closed when you do it. You can rename it to anything, but renaming it forces Max to rebuild a new one. Renaming it also gives you a backup incase you need it for some reason. Typically you don't need a bad one but why not save it anyway as you never know? Go find it and rename it. Mine lives here, yours should be in a similar path: C:\Users\NVision4D\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2023 - 64bit\ENU
So before giving up, try this and if it doesn't work, reinstall. But if you reinstall, make sure you delete all the folders you can find relating to Max so there is nothing left over.
I don't use Autocad much, but modeling in Max is a much nicer experience from my perspective. Let's get you going. And if the Array tool is the only thing misbehaving, there are 3rd party Array tools that can get you that functionality I'm sure. It would be a shame to give up on Max just because of one function when the other 1000s work fine.
