Where is the "Object List" which shows the materials, objects, show/hide objects

I have come from Cinema4D software and so I can navigate really well with C4D, and was interested to try out 3ds.

Anyways, Sorry for the simple question. Where is the “Object List”?

For example sake and simplicity:

If I create a sphere and put a square inside it, I should effectively have 2 objects.

So, If I want to select the square inside I would look in the “objects list” and select “square”.

Where Can I get this!?

In C4D the object will also have the material assigned handily next to it and can easily be edited, selected, renamed.

I have even changed the workspace to Default, default w/ enhanced, and even alternative layout still no sign of it.

It would be grateful if you could help me Thank you.

Hi. Press "h" and the list opens.

The object list in Max is called "Scene Explorer". If you're using Max 2015/2016, you could also have this Scene Explorer open at all times as in C4D like this. It can also be docked on either sides of your screen as shown in the video.

Thank you! Worked perfect I just docked the "Scene Explorer / Object List" on the left.

Sorry to bother you with another problem: Where is the Materials / materials editable column on the list?

As you can see in the picture it has what material is assigned to it, but I cant seem to find what materials are used in my work and edit them if I require.

I know material editor by pressing "M" but still doesnt display the materials used in the scene nor allow me to edit the material.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately the only way to do this from SceneExplorer is to add this function manually

to your SceneExplorer Right-Click menue:

1)Locate Main Menue->Customize->Customize User Interface->Quads.

2)In the Category Section find 'Medit-Tools'

3)Select the SceneExplorer Quad.

4)Drag the 'Edit selected Objects Material' to the Quad Menue.

5)Close the Dialog.

Now you can Right-Click any Object in the SceneExplorer and select this menue entry to..well 'Edit selected Objects Material'

And before you start: Yes it would be preferable to have just a simple button for this.

As an alternative you can use the 'Eye-Dropper' tool in the Material-Editor to get a material from the scene.
