w3x format

I am a modder. I need to convert 3D models to w3x format for "C&C 3 Tiberium Wars" and "Red Alert 3". I have plugins for older versions of your software (3d Studio Max 7 and 9), which I cannot download and install legally even if I have student licence (this is only for the newest versions). Please answer, how to use old plugins in newer versions of 3dsmax (if possible), or if we (modders' community) can use only for that. Analogic situation is with modding S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (ogf format, plugins for version 7 and 8) I've written about it with my friend, GenZool here: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-3ds-max-design-general/converting-and-opening-w3x-files-in-3ds... but we didn't get answer. Even "Your problem, you cannot do it legally", only silence. It's very important, please answer.

@Anonymous Thanks for the heads up. We appreciate that 3ds Max is used extensively in the modding community and we look to make the functionality even better. There are 2 issues at hand and then a side note.

1) 3ds Max is especially proud of the development community that supports us and do everything we can to nuture its success. But, we can not be held responsible for their continued support of their own work and if they choose to not recompile for some reason, we can not force them to do so.

2) The 3ds Max team gets a lot of its inspiration for future feature development from a number of different sources. Something you can do to help allocate resources is to start a .w3x thread started on user voice (http://3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com/forums/80695-general-feature-requests/category/10619-import-expor... and get the modding community behind it so we can track the opportunity.

side note: I apologize for the silence you experienced on past posts here. We are working on getting better procedures in place to make sure this forum is better monitored and responded.

This isn't acceptable, to force users to acquire PIRATE versions of the product, just so they can do their job.

Either:

Make an update/patch that will ignore the serial number all together

or

Make the serial numbers work for all versions (so long as it is only one system)

or

Make version 9 3DS Max available to download (with serial number) on the Autodesk website

or

Make version 9 3DS Max available to buy at a reduced cost (£10-£25 GBP, I'd pay that for a disc copy with serial number)

or

Make version 2017 3DS Max reverse-compatible to use version 9 plugins

or

Get a team to update our version 9 plugins to work on versions 2013/2014/2015/2016/2017

Those are all of the choices, now choose one and get it done, simple as.

Waited 3 years for a working product, don't force me to wait any longer.

I will march down to London on foot if I have got to, so don't delay, get it done.
