Hi,

Your material editor is showing Standard Materials not Vray materials

To get a Vray material, click get material, go to the Vray section and double click VrayMtl

Vray material

You'll get a gray material too,

Now, if you're talking about the random colors that you see sometimes in the material editor, with Vray materials,

You need to switch 3DS Max to Vray mode, by going to Customize menu, Custom UI and Defaults Switchers,

Choose Max.vray from the left box, click Set, and restart 3DS Max.
