Hello, please tell me the solution: I select the image for the background in the viewport configuration window and at the bottom of three options I choose match bitmap. The image is set as needed, but when I select another viewport it stretches a lot, apparently the match bitmap option is reset itself and set differently. Thank you in advance.

If you turn on Safe Frames, does it help?

I get the same results in 2021.  I've never actually used multiple viewport backgrounds before so I never noticed this, but yeah I see this problem too.   If your goal is to use them for modeling, maybe put them on a plane instead.

Yes, a bitmap on a plane is probably the best way forward.

Note that you can put it on a separate layer and make that layer always "shaded", so you can continue to work in wireframe mode for the other objects.
