V-Ray Background (Environment Map) Issue

I am trying to add a space background image, using regular bitmap and selecting the mapping to be screen yields this result:

However when I try to apply it with Ray Bitmap, the result looks odd:

Changing the mapping type in V-Ray to other options (circular, angular, spherical, etc.) results in a blurry background for the result. Anyone know how to work with this?

It seems that using regular bitmap for the environment works fine with rendering in V-Ray, so there is no need to use VRayBitmap in this case, however, the render in V-Ray looks darker in color and seemingly different than the standard.

From your screenshot it looks like you have exposure affecting the bg...

Alfred makes a good point. If that's not it there is something else you can check. VRayBitmaps by default often seem to have the 'Color Space Transfer Function' set to 'Inverse Gamma.' Try changing it to 'sRGB' and see if it behaves better.

Thank you all for the input! I played with the exposure setting and began the rendering process, this is how it looks like in the preview:

This is what ends up being rendered:

I can see the moon is there but it's extremely dark. Exposure set high, here are some other settings:

After trying many things I think I found a fix to it, I changed the image saving output to this:

Outcome now:

I'm glad it's working for you, but you really do want your render window and saved frames to look the same.  You might check out the advanced mode in the color mapping rollout for the vray render settings and see if that can help you. Maybe you don't want color mapping to affect the bg, I don't know.   The before and after really should look the same and your vray render window is quite blown out imho.

You might need to post in the Chaos forums, I don't get results like you with default settings so maybe it's a quirk with Vray 7.  (I'm on 6.)
