Using Substitute modifier results in a suddenly massive mesh

Hi,

 

I'm having trouble when trying to use the Substitute modifier to swap one 3D person for another.

 

When I switch them over the mesh is substituted in the right place but is always 100x too big. If I substitute the models in the opposite order the resulting mesh is always 100x too small. Why is this? Is it a bug or something to do with my models?

 

Please help me out guys.

Also,

 

When I export my scene and bring it into Keyshot, even if I don't 'Substitute' anything beforehand I get the same scaling errors.

 

Only SOME of my models have these errors.

 

Only the ones that turn huge when they're using with the 'Substitute' modifier.
