I ve sent you version 1.8.6. in the attachment. I don't know if it is compatible with 3dsmax 2019 but just give it a shot.

Hi Byteman, thank you for sending me the attachment. I have installed it but it didn't show in my 3dmax under Tool bar. Just wondering if I need to install it in a particular file? Please advise.

Thanks

It should be under the Tools menu as Populate terrain menu item. More recent version might be present in the below link:

Hi,

That's why I am confused. I installed a couple of times but it didn't show up on the tool bar. I saved randomly in C drive.

Thank you so much for your help!

Regards

Did it work now, my friend?

Could you find it or is it still not present?

Could you notice the follow up messages in the script spot link above? Some users report Syntax error messages with Max 2019 and someone says he is going on the development of the script. He has a link to a 2019 version. I copied the text and the link.

updated for max2019

I received the source code and permission from the original author to update this to work in 2019. Find the script here:
https://github.com/mxdsa/populateTerrain

It is also said in the threads that you have to setup from the installation file. It doesn't work with only the ms files. I don't know the details but the installation might be adding some environment variables.

I don't have Max 2019 so I can't test if any of it works.

I downloaded that script as well. Not sure how to use it. Does the script explain how I should install the plug in?

Thank you so much for your help.

I have 3dsmax 2018  my system. I've just ran the executable that I've sent in the first place.

I thought it would appear in the Tools menu, but since it is not there we have to run the script manually.

Just click on the Scripting menu and click Run Script.

The file selection dialog directly opened the corresponding Max version's Scripts folder and there is a Populate-Terrain sub-folder right there.

Click on the Populate-terrain.mse file in the sub-folder.

The Populate terrain dialog will appear. I once used it with terrain curves but I don't remember the details. I've tried with a few splines. Just selected and pressed Process. It said Invalid Boolean.

I think the ands of your severals curves must be connected with splines, too.

If you plan to use it so often, you can use the Customize User Interface command in Customize menu and add the Populate command to either the toolbar or the menus. You'll look for the Populate command in Main UI commands.

By the way if this terrain is a real world terrain, you can use depth maps of that area as a displacement map.

Tangram Heightmapper is a website where you can extract heightmaps.

Hi, hope this is useful. It's actually found under the Edit Tab, not Tools!
