UnWrap UVW - Issues

Im using unwrap uvw modifier on objects. once ive gone through the process of flattening the mapping of my object faces, i then select each individual face but my object in the viewport stays selected so I can't tell which part I select in the uvw editor. does anyone know how to fix this.

The process I use is select the polygons first then add the unwrap uvw modifier, I then select the polygon mode on the modifier then open the uvw editor and flatter the mapping, but I can't seem to deselect the polygon faces on the object in the viewport

When you select polygons before you apply a modifier, you are basically telling 3DsMax that you want to limit what ever modifier effect to the selected area.

Same as if you were to select Polygons and add a bend modifier, only the selected polygons would be affected.

So for your purpose, I don't really see a reason to select polygons first, just add the unwrap modifier and do all your unwrapping.

Usually I would do that, in prior versions to 2017 I didnt have this issue but for 2017 when I apply an unwrap uvw modifier without selecting the polygons first then going into the unwrap modifier the object doesn't show in the uv editor and all options are limited to unavailable or dont do anything without the object being selected prior to using the modifier.

Have you tried creating a new primitive and applying an Unwrap to that, to see if it behaves the same way?

Could just be that the object you are working on has become a bit funky. And if that's the case, you could try to reset its Xform and/or creating a primitive and attaching your object. That way you would effectively reset the object.

Not sure what happened but if I click back and forth between the editable poly and the unwrap modifier and reselect the polygon's in the modifier and open the uv editor and click off the polygons and select the ones I want to edit it seems to work.

Hello @Decolan and welcome to the community,

Is this still an issue for you?  Are you all set now?  Or, is there anything I can do to help or answer any questions for you?  Thanks!
