I have the exact same question. For many years I was able to edit motion in dope sheet. I found it fast and intuitive.
Autodesk has basically ruined it. I no longer use it. If I have multiple animated items selected and go into dope sheet, turn on all the filters to only show me the tracks I need, and it still freezes max completely for several minutes if I want to move keyframes around.
Why, oh why did you guys ruin this? What was the motivation to cripple anyone who wanted to still use the dope sheet to edit animation?
So confused and fed up.
