Good day,

I installed the Educational Version of 3DS Max 2020 a few minutes ago, running on Windows 10 at 4K with a custom scale factor of 350%. This works fine on every other app I use - Adobe software, Blender, MS Office, Unity, Chrome, but the interface for 3DS Max, (except for the top "ribbon" of buttons), is still too small for my old eyes to get a handle on. I don't see anything in the Preferences about it, but that might be just because I can't see things very well period.

There are a couple of YouTube videos that describe running 3DS Max in compatibility mode for Windows 8 and then doing something else with the UI scaling from there. Is that the best I can do?

Edit: My custom scaling is actually 175%. 350% was just the number in the dropdown box but it wasn't the number in use.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for bringing your question to the forums, it looks like you are visiting as a new member to the 3DS Max forum. I want to extend a warm welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I know I have heard a few folks having issues with this, I wonder if you go into the High DPI settings inside the Max launch exe itself that could have an effect. Here is a screenshot of where I found those settings. It will be worth looking into! I will do some more digging in the meantime to see what i dig up in our internal articles on the subject of 4k monitor display settings.

Talk to you soon!

I had already tried your suggestions based on a YouTube video I watched this week, but had no success. Fortunately, by upping my global scaling to 200%, the buttons and text are just large enough for me to work with. I find it odd that my other 3D software has this sort of thing in User Preferences, but Max does not.

It is what it is I suppose. I appreciate your reply - have a good weekend. 🙂

Yep, I was also positively impressed with the way Blender lets you customize the UI size. I guess it's harder to implement as an afterthought, when the software has a huge amount of menus and icons. But it certainly feels more professional if the option is there. (It's not a coincidence I'm reading this post)
