Transparent tooltip

Hey.

My tooltips show as semitransparent. I can't find a way to change that. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to find a fix? My eyesight is such, that the semi-transparent and grey plays havoc.

This suggestion is just to get a couple of things out of the way before further diagnosing.

Have you tried:

1. Go to 'Customize User Interface' and then 'Colors' and tried to 'reset' the ToolTip items? There are 4 of them.

2. Have you done an 'ENU' reset? (search the forum for "reset ENU" and you should find how to do that)

If those don't work report back.

Hey.

I did both of these, but the hovering tooltip is still very transparent grey background and white text. I'll uninstall and reinstall now... See if that helps. I'll also remove the ENU-bits afterwards. I noticed there were traces from the 2019 installs too.

Actually, got it working now. Thank you. I went back to the drawingboard. Started doing the colors again and this time with every change I rebooted the whole program. Now finally have it working.

Thank you.

Glad you got it working. Do you mind explaining a bit about specifically what you did? It might help someone else solve the problem.

You said you "started doing the colors again", what did you do that someone else could repeat? It really makes this forum helpful if people can find some sort of "Solution" instead of not knowing for sure what you did.

Oh yeah, forgot to explain properly.

Once I had reinstalled everything (I actually removed the install files from the C-drive and downloaded everything) I went into the UI configuration as you explained first.  I changed the tooltip colors here and there and then saved settings and applied them.

Nothing happened.

next step was that I rebooted the whole 3DS Max. Returned to the customization. Here is where I found how to get things done. I changed the tooltip background to black. Saved, applied settings.  No change. I then rebooted the program and now the settings finally worked. Mostly. Good enough. Background isn't black, but it is opaque grey with white text.

If this is a feature, it really needs the explanation in the customization, since applying the settings doesn't work until you reboot. No idea how I originally got them transparent in 2019 and why the installed changed everything to white.  Only thing I didn't do with the re-install was to clean the registry after uninstall. That's probably where the last problems came from.

I have tooltip balloons surrounded by a black rectangle on 3dsmax 2020 with Update 1. Tooltip alpha does not work as you see in the image. This hasn't been like this before on the very same machine. (I 've had a virus encounter 2-3 days ago and I just needed to setup from scratch) Any ideas why this might happen?Untitled-1.jpg
