Spline vertex type default

Does anybody know if there's a way to default all spline vertex creation to corner, either when creating a line, a rectangle, an ngon, or adding vertices via refine, chamfer etc. Every new vertex created defaults to bezier corner and it's been driving me mad for years.

I agree that a rectangle shape should just use Corners instead of Bezier Corners for the vertices.  Really any hard angle.  And when refining a shape, it seems rather hit or miss whether they come in as Corner or Bezier Corner.  

 

Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to change it.  I do feel that if you add a vertex to a spline with Refine where all the existing vertices are already Corner, the new vertex will also be a corner.  But that's not always possible.

Thanks for replying. For the work I do, straight corner are what I use 90% of the time. So i'm constantly adjusting vertex type. There's that old Neil Blevins script, but it's still additionnal operations. All I would need is a setting in parameters or the .ini file.

The following worked for me.  Although there appears to be only the option of changing the default spline vertex drag-type, it worked for initial type too.

 

For Max 2023, open the file CurrentDefaults.ini

 for my installation it was located at:

C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2023 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\defaults\MAX

 

(substitute your user name for YOURNAME)

 

Search the file for DefaultDragType and change the value to 1.
