Site Plan Help

I am looking for a good tutorial to take a site plan created in Civil 3D (with existing and proposed grading, building, parking areas) and produce a good rendering in 3ds Max.  I was trying to follow this tutorial:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRX3vRSYPb8

It is a good tutorial but for some reason I am having a hard time creating the gradient ramp map for my terrain.  I dont know if it is because there is a large difference in elevations, this tutorial only has about 25 feet of elevation difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it is just to get the terrain and displacment map to look correct.  FYI, I am very much a novice in 3ds max, but trying to learn.

I did render it in Civil 3D but it does not look that good, I am think 3DS Max would give me a better result.

Thanks

if you attach a render of your model and then a printscreen of your displacment map setting it would be easy to help you out without a render then it's gonna be hard to help you

So i have performed the following steps:

In autocad I made a file containing my existing contours.

Referenced that into 3ds Max.

Used the contours to make a terrain

Added zones to the terrain.  White for the lowest elevation, Black for the highest elevation.

Attached is the terrain with contours on.

Also attached is the render of that terrain.

To me when rendered, the clouded area almost seems to be reversed.  The area that is clouded should form a valley of stream, but in the render it appears to be making a hill.  Not really sure what I am doing wrong.terrain and contours.JPGterrain render.JPG
