Show track bar does not work.

2018.1 and we still have this bug.  Every version of max, the track bar mysteriously vanishes.

Others have reported it here.  Typically I can select it from the menu, but since 2018 that menu does nothing.  No track bar.  I have to reset my work space to default.  Years ago I thought it was my OS or graphics card.  I don't believe that anymore.

Side note: applying cloth to an open spline crashes the app.  <discovered accidentally>

try, right click on some empty space of the tool bar and select TIMESLIDER, once active, proceed to your usual procedure in activating TRACKBAR

The time slider and track bar are two different things.  However, uncool that they are selected in two different places.  (or, are you saying it's a two step process to get the track bar back when turning it on doesn't function?)

it was different from each other, however we sometimes accidentally drag the timeslider across the window and the procedure you have will not wok. to restore it, just follow my previous comment. there are some procedure to restore it like restoring your workspace, setting to 3ds max default and or deleting 3ds max .ini file.... its up to you which one is more simple to you

Launch max, open the mini curve editor, close max without saving.  Relaunch max, your track bar is gone.  Custmize->ShowUI-> Trackbar doesn't work.  It's a reproducible bug.

Right click TimeSlider does work.  Living with a workaround is not OK in comparison of getting it right; imagine the frustration of someone new to Max.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thanks for reporting it.  I will log this now.

EDIT: Script removed, it didn't help the user.  Rendermasters is better anyhow so no need to pollute the thread with my basic one.

Thanks!  I tried that, but it still didn't work.  It returns true, but doesn't do anything.  I also tried the following placed in scripts/Startup with no luck.

   trackbar.visible = true
timeslider.setvisible true

Hello @Anonymous,

It's a super simple script.  I tested it in 2017 and 2018.  Did you put it in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2018\scripts\Startup?  Maybe I should have written the full path before.  If it fails, you should get an error message.  Did you get one?  @rendermaster's is a better script no doubt, did it work?

Yeah.  That's what I did.  It doesn't work for me.  I also noticed the attached screen when trying to install the other script as a toggle button.....  am I not missing a bunch of menu items in the right payne?  Just for the heck of it, I uninstalled everything and deleted all the autodesk folders and pref.  I now have a brand new 30 day trial installed, and it still behaves the same.

Hello @Anonymous,

Yeah that's not looking right.  Please tell me a bit about your system.  GPU, OS, PC vs. Mac, etc.

What happens if you just run the following line in the listener?

actionMan.executeAction 0 "407"  -- Tools: Show Track Bar Toggle

Please be specific.  Thanks!

System specs attached.  When I eval that command it returns "True" but doesn't affect anything.  I can say, everything is working well, other then these UI oddities.  There is an SLI bridge between the two GPU's. I can try without it, but I doubt it will change much.

Ok thank you @Anonymous, I appreciate it.

SLI can cause random strange problems in 3ds Max and it isn't supported but I don't think it has anything to do with these issues.  That being said the Toolbars submenu in there doesn't have information on the right side, but other tabs do so there is nothing wrong there.

My first script was bad because it was a toggle so that's my bad.  Just replace the contents of the old one with the following line and save:

trackbar.visible= true

Blah, pulled the SLI bridge and installed new drivers.  Same behavior.  This was my original script.  It also returns "true" with no affect to the UI. Changing max to Legacy OpenGL also does nothing.  Still have missing menu contents and misbehaving trackbar.  Beyond those things, everything else works fine.  I'm in creative suite everyday with no issues.  I'd say the GPU's are working well.  Pretty baffling since this is a new software install since trying to debug it.  At this point, I'm almost thinking a screen share with support might be a way to go.

Not sure if you saw my previous post, but your menu contents aren't missing.  That toolbar tab doesn't have info there.

If you want me to screenshare with you I'm happy to do it.  In the meanwhile, please download the TeamViewer software and send me a PM when you're ready.

Hello all,

This post is a follow up on this thread.  I had a teamviewer session with @Anonymous and we went through the steps, checked the script folder, etc. but this issue remains.  The button to enable trackbar wasn't working, no commands worked for the trackbar, etc which is very strange.   Though impossible for me to repro on this side, I know it's happening to him as I've seen it.   I am currently looking for more information about this so I can properly log it into the tracker.  Thanks!

Hello @Anonymous,

The general consensus is that there must be something wrong with your workspace.  The offending file is most likely the ENU\en-US\UI\Workspaces\usersave\Workspace1__usersave__.cuix.layout file.   I would try experimenting with your workspaces.  For example, try Resetting your workspace.  Or when it is open and working ok, try creating a new Workspace with a new name and see if this new workspace helps things.  Would you please try that for me?  Thanks!

Hi everybody,

I have exactly the same problem than ehren .

I tryed to apply all the solutions proposed on this thread, but nothing work...

It's hard to think that I have to re-install all the Suite only to restaure the track bar :'(

Hello @remy.malin and welcome to the community,

Do you use custom workspaces?  I am trying to collect as much info as possible here.  Have you tried resetting your user settings

Hello Alfred.DeFlaminis

Thank you for your welcome.

And, most importantly, thanks for your help ! It work.

I had only tried to delete 3dsmax.ini, Trackview.ini and others actions proposed on this thread.
