Scene crashing when open materials or enviroment tab

Hello!

Im having a problem. My 3ds max 2023 crashes whenever i open material tab or open enviroment tab.

I assume this is some object from my scene, since i tried to open materials on a blank scene, and it didnt crash. I have allready tried to merge the scene into a blank one, but error still happens.

Im using last version of corona renderer, my scene is some big, it weights 11 g.

I have quixel bridge and  forest pack only as external plugins

I dont know how to spot the object, or element that is causing my program to fail, I hope some one can help, since I need t d this renders.

Hello @moycoas ,

At this point you should consider your scene to be corrupted, so you want to go into full triage mode.  Here's what I would do as a few different options.

1) Go back a couple iterations to a version that this doesn't happen with (or autoback), and take an inventory of the objects in your scene.  Compare to the new scene.   Then, the best advice here is to merge about half of your file into a new scene and see if the problem happens.  If it doesn't, then the corrupted item is in the 2nd half.  Then, do it again for the 2nd half by going halfway to 3/4's point.  Keep narrowing down the problem until you find the object that is corrupted.

2) If that is too much for a first step (and I get it), then maybe look into the materials and see if there is an odd man out.  Since you cannot open the material editor (maybe you can open the classic view instead of slate?) then you need another way to peek at the materials and maps in your scene.  I recommend Zorb ModMod.  It's a little confusing and slow at first but it's powerful and may allow you to see if maybe an arnorld or vray material slipped in there somehow and is causing problems in Corona.  ModMod will allow you to delete or modify those sorts of things in a different GUI which may bypass the problem.

3) If Quixel bridge is active, disable it or something to make sure it's not interfering.   You could also try to use the Rendering ->Scene Converter to look for missing plugin references or possibly convert all the materials to something else to see if the materials are the problem.  (Anything to help narrow down the cause.)

5) 11 Gigs, wow.  Maybe it's all a bit too much to load your textures in the material editor.   Have you tried enabling bitmap proxies?  Maybe it'll reduce overhead enough to allow those things to load in.   Additionally, you should be using proxies for large objects and setting your turbosmooth iterations to 0 and using render iterations instead to save on file size and viewport performance.  Maybe the scene is just too maxed out to work properly at this point.  You can also set objects to display as box which speeds up the viewport.

Best Regards,
