Scene Crashes on undo

I'm running 2018 and without fail, if I create an object and then undo the action, the program crashes.

I am also getting these two helper objects in every scene file.

Capture.JPG

I think they came along with a stockmodel I loaded into a scene.  They won't unfreeze or delete.  I can select them through the scene explorer but that's it.  They show up in every fresh and old scene that I've checked.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Maybe something corrupted your user settings, i suggest you close Max and go to:

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20xx - xxbit

And rename the folder called ENU to something else like ENU.old and reopen Max

Note: AppData is a hidden folder so enable show hidden files and folders from the Control Panel

That seems to solve the problem of the helper objects on load.  That is until I load up one of those scene and they come back.  Maybe I'll just have to wait to get completely done with this current project and then clear it out again.

FYI, I got support from Chaos Group.  Just needed to rename the helper objects.  This allows you go delete them.  Which then seems to solve the issue.

Update.  The earlier fix is only a temporary solution.  Any time you load a scene that has those helper objects in them, they come back.  It would be nice if someone at Autodesk could supply some sort of support or explanation for why this is occurring.

Yes I believe the link you posted here is related to the problem.  Did you do the steps listed there?  File a support case via Manage.autodesk.com?  Thanks for detailing what you've tried since this last post.

Best Regards,

Alfred

The steps did fix it.  I had to install WinDirStat to see the file, even with show hidden enabled.  I have a dozen active scenes which has the issue so I plan to finish this current project and apply the fix after that.  I wish there was a less manual way to address this issue...it's a huge pain.

I had attempted to file a support case but the website just pin wheeled at the time.  I need to try it again.

Thanks Alfred!

Ah, glad to hear that.  Yes it seems to save some maxscript data in the scene files so they have to be cleaned.  I'm glad that it's working however, thanks for the update!

Best Regards,

Alfred
