Reskinning to an existing cat Rig

Reskinning to an existing cat Rig

Hello dear community,

The Problem:

Cause skinning was for me always a thing, i never want to get my hands into (because it seems really not ez at all),

but i still wanted to develop a game (because i am a dedicated programmer student), I searched for predifined meshes with rigs. I found one good mesh for my character (FPS and TPS versions) and started learnig animating. So ive done a lot of animations to this nice rigged fps hands character (which was ALOT of work). I always done this in mind, that the hands should be gather new skins (for different characters / armor etc.) . Since retargeting seams not to work for fps animations (cause the precision an animation needs in fps seems not to be reachable with retarget options) i was thinking about reskinning the new fp mesh to the old cat rig while keeping transforms in order.

The Question:

So I was thinking, if it will be possible, to reskin the new skin (which is rigged with a difrent rig at the moment(not Cat Rig) to the old rig, while keeping similiar transforms, so the animations i made can be reused for the new meshes. The thought is having one Rig for all characters, so I wont have to retarget (which results in really bad results) / redo all animations for each. Does someone know if its possible and if so, where to get started in learning this?

Best Regards Florian
